iPhone Photo of the Week: March 21, 2019

Wow. Again, I have neglected this blog for far too long. So many things have happened in my life, including becoming a dad! I am the happy father of a wonderful 6 month old baby boy. I also have a new job that doesn’t require travel like my old job so I am feeling pretty blessed in this season of life.

This week’s photo features one of Lynchburg, Virginia’s signature sunsets. Something about the mountains in this area set the sky up for beautiful colors at sunset. This picture was taken from the Snowflex center on Liberty University’s campus and taken on an iPhone 8 Plus. Enjoy!

iPhone Photo of the Week – 16

This past weekend, my wife and I went to Washington D.C. for a little weekend getaway and to enjoy our nation’s capital. When we go to cities, we like to plan some things, but for the most part, we just like to walk around and explore the city and not stick to a set itinerary.

Of course, that being said, the photo of the week is of one of the most visible landmarks in DC, the Washington Monument.

I really like this picture because of how the light of the sun is reflecting off the side of the monument, but only half of the side, because of the cloudy weather.

A couple of other pictures that I considered for photo of the week are below:

Also, I did take some comparative pictures with my new iPhone and old iPhone during the trip so I am hoping to get that post out during this upcoming weekend. Until then, enjoy your week!

iPhone Photo of the Week (Week 15)

Since my last iPhone photo of the week post, I have a new phone. I have upgraded from the iPhone SE to the new iPhone 8 Plus and wow, what a difference it makes.

I think I might take them both out this weekend and then write a comparison post to highlight just how much more capable the 8 Plus is.

For my photo of the week, I chose this picture of the Conference Center in Roanoke. This definitely wasn’t the best composed shot I took this week, but I really like the dynamic range and how the leaves have started to change on the tree to the left. This picture is exactly how the phone captured it with no additional processing done by me.

Hope you enjoy!

False Start

Back in August, I thought I would start blogging regularly again. Well, that didn’t happen. I got halfway through the month doing really well on all the goals I had set for myself, then I started traveling for work and getting busier and I let my goals slip away. So, now that it is a new month, it’s time to start again.

For those of you who still read my posts, thank you for your patience! I hope I can say that I am back for at least the next few months.

For now, here are a couple of pictures of downtown Roanoke. I hope to get another post up this week.

The featured picture on this post shows the Amtrak platform being constructed for passenger rail service to return to Roanoke on October 31st!

iPhone Photo of the Week (Week 14)

It feels weird going from Week 13 to Week 14 when almost 3 years separate them, but it would also be silly to start over so, here we are at Week 14 and the subject of this photo is the cat my wife and brought home last fall. His name is Cheetah and he is about 1 year old at this point. Having a cat in a one bedroom apartment (with no doors) can be tough, but life would be just a little bit less fun without him (don’t tell my wife).

Also, since my last iPhone Photo of the Week, I upgraded from the iPhone 5 to the iPhone SE, which has the same camera as the iPhone 6s for reference.

Three Years…

It has been way too long. Almost three years since my last post on this blog. There is so much that has happened since the Fall of 2014. Here is a quick recap:

  • Late Fall 2014 – Family moved back to Delaware from Pittsburgh
  • Summer 2015 – Interned with CPA firm and got offered full-time job for after graduation
  • Fall 2015 – Spring 2016 – Wrote my senior theses and finished my last year of college
  • May 2016 – Received my Bachelors degree in accounting and married my beautiful wife.
  • Summer 2016 – Worked for a manufacturing company (potato chips!)
  • Fall 2016 – Present – Working for that CPA firm and enjoying Roanoke with my wife

That was a pretty high level review, but thought I should let everyone know what has happened since my last post.

So, until the next time I post (most likely another “iPhone Photo of the Week” post), here are some pictures to hold you over.

Also, I have started another blog. It is titled “An Accountant’s Life,” but is not limited to my experience as a public accountant (not that exciting), but also my takes on current events and things that I care about. So if you would like to take a look at my content over there, that would be cool! Otherwise, stay tuned for more “Macro Masterpieces.”

iPhone Photo of the Week (Week 13)

Trying to get back in the swing of things and back into the routine of posting weekly. It is fall here in Lynchburg, Virginia, and as of this post, it is past peak when it comes to the changing color of the landscape.

This week’s iPhone Photo of the Week is taken at my school. Liberty University’s campus is split by a four-lane divided highway. This picture was taken from the eastern portion of campus looking towards the main academic building, Demoss Hall. I used the HDR setting on my iPhone to make sure that I was able to get enough exposure on the campus while keeping the beauty of the fall sky and the color of the leaves in the foreground.

It's in the details.
