My Job (Baseball)

Today was the home opener for Liberty University Baseball. This is only the second season that the Flames baseball team has played in their new baseball stadium and today was the first time playing a home opener after the stadium was fully completed. Although the Flames fell to Old Dominion University 7-4, it was exciting to be back into baseball.

Before today’s game could be played, countless hours were put in by some of my coworkers and Grounds crews clearing the stadium and field of snow that fell on Thursday and Friday (To see this progress, check out the Athletic Director’s Instagram). They did an amazing job getting the field ready for today’s game. Baseball is actually a relatively easy sport for the Athletic Facilities department. All we need to do for these games is put out some white rocking chairs, put umbrellas up on patio tables. Also, we clean up the stands of trash post-game and periodically use leaf blowers to get rid of the hundreds of sunflower seeds that are eaten during games. Here are just a few pictures I snapped during today’s game.

And here is a look at what the Jerry Falwell Library looked like in the snowfall back on Saturday.

The Jerry Falwell Library is pictured covered in snow after two days of snowfall that accumulated 10 inches on Liberty's campus.
