Lynchburg Sunsets

Lynchburg, Virginia is the home of my college, Liberty University, as well as home to the most stunning sunsets I have ever seen in my life. A combination of the mountains (or hills as people in the Rockies would probably claim) and the cloud conditions make for some of the most colorful sunsets imaginable. One of those such sunsets occurred during Liberty University’s baseball game against Virginia Military Institute.

Here is the first pano that I captured when I first noticed the sunset…

Below is a gallery of some other sunsets I’ve captured during my time at Liberty.

Intramural Sports

At Liberty University, there are lots of intramural sport options, from ultimate frisbee to dodgeball, football and basketball, and even broomball, there are lots of options for students to compete or just have fun. My best friend, Brady, decided to play intramural softball this semester and invited Ashley and I to his first game today. Ashley brought her camera and, since she isn’t a huge sports fan, let me take some pictures.

The fields where intramural softball fields are halfway up one of the mountains (or hills) that surround Liberty’s campus so there was a great view of the sunset from the game. Here are some of the pictures I was able to get of the action and of the sky.

My Job (Baseball)

Today was the home opener for Liberty University Baseball. This is only the second season that the Flames baseball team has played in their new baseball stadium and today was the first time playing a home opener after the stadium was fully completed. Although the Flames fell to Old Dominion University 7-4, it was exciting to be back into baseball.

Before today’s game could be played, countless hours were put in by some of my coworkers and Grounds crews clearing the stadium and field of snow that fell on Thursday and Friday (To see this progress, check out the Athletic Director’s Instagram). They did an amazing job getting the field ready for today’s game. Baseball is actually a relatively easy sport for the Athletic Facilities department. All we need to do for these games is put out some white rocking chairs, put umbrellas up on patio tables. Also, we clean up the stands of trash post-game and periodically use leaf blowers to get rid of the hundreds of sunflower seeds that are eaten during games. Here are just a few pictures I snapped during today’s game.

And here is a look at what the Jerry Falwell Library looked like in the snowfall back on Saturday.
