The Last Snow Day?

Two weeks ago, Liberty University cancelled classes for two days in a row. Fast forward to today, and the University, probably more in a way of precaution, cancelled classes again. Although the accumulation of snow is nothing like what hit Virginia two weeks ago, the threat of ice as the temperatures drop through the day were enough to cause the closure.

Like a good student, first I wrote my five-page Theology essay for Wednesday, but once I got that out of the way, Ashley and I headed for Chick-fil-a and I finally got to play with some of my new toys I got from my parents for my birthday. My parents bought me this Vivitar macro photography kit for me off Amazon. I wasn’t totally confident in how much good it would do me, but the reviews were good so I had asked for it for my birthday.

Today was my first chance to get to try the set out. When we got to Chick-fil-a, I cleaned off the lens on the camera and threw on the macro lens that uses the 52mm threads at the end of the lens attached to the camera. The lens is supposed to be .43x and it appeared that way, the only issue is it causes some vignetting when zoomed all the way out and if you put a filter in between the two lenses it heightens that affect, but overall it was very nice.

Also with the kit came four macro filters. There is a +1, +2, +4, and +10 filter and they can be used individually or in any combination. I could say how well I think they worked, but we all know pictures speak a thousand words..

My Birthday!

Today was the big day. Today marked the end of an era, and the beginning of a new one. Today I turned 20 and left my teenage years behind. My birthday definitely turned out to be the best one I’ve had so far! I started off my birthday going to Thomas Road Baptist Church with my brother, Ashley (my girlfriend) and her family. After church and after giving my brother a quick tour of the Jerry Falwell Library, we headed over to Ashley’s grandmother’s house for a birthday celebration. There was grilled chicken and macaroni and cheese so I was a happy man. Ashley gave me some Liberty gear and I’m excited to sport it! The shirt I’m wearing in these pictures was given to me by my wonderful parents and you’ve gotta admit it looks pretty great. Thank you to everyone who made my birthday great. I look forward to many more years enjoying God’s blessings, including the wonderful people he places in my life!

The only pictures not taken by Ashley are the cat picture, taken by me and the pictures that Ashley is in.

Snow Day

All week, Liberty University students, including myself, had been waiting with anticipation to see what would become of this snow storm coming up from the south. Last night around 5pm, we got the announcement that there would be no classes today (Thursday, February 13th)! Guys on my hall were elated and students all over campus started playing in the snow that started falling at a rate of 2 inches an hour. From about 3pm when the snow started falling and overnight, about 10 inches of snow fell on campus. Snowball fights involving hundreds of students and sledding down the various hills on campus were some of the activities that students enjoyed. For some students, this was the first time they’ve ever seen a snowfall like this before. I, being from Syracuse, wasn’t really impressed, but it was a beautiful sight to see the white stuff that used to accumulate up to 5 feet sometimes while I lived in Upstate New York.

Today, my girlfriend and I are at Panera, eating lunch and doing our homework. It just started snowing again so maybe we can get some more classes cancelled tomorrow? It might be just a prayer, but no matter what happens, seeing this snow makes me feel at home.

UPDATE: No classes tomorrow!
